Task 3/ Animated Composition

Week 8 (10/06/25)

This week we were taught about how to create patterns, add textures and how to use the brushes in the Illustrator. We were already given elements that we can use to create the patterns and more. We were taught step by step in details.

Week 9 (17/06/25)(pANDA)

In Week 9, we were introduced to animation using After Effects. It was exciting (and a little intimidating) as most of us were trying it for the first time. We learned how to prepare our assets by designing in Illustrator and arranging layers in Photoshop before bringing everything into After Effects to animate. We were also briefed on Task 3, which is to create an animated composition for a competition hosted by HONOR. In class, we practiced using fun, pre-prepared elements—a cute panda, some stars, and a colourful abstract background. Thankfully, Mr Fitri reassured us that a simple animation would be enough for the assignment, since this is a new experience for many of us.

Week 10 (24/06/25)

This week, there were no lecture as time is given for us to finish our work. For this task I decided to work on the theme : Cultural Prosperity - Celebration : Traditional Cultural Innovation, and for that I have decided to create a composition that explores the revolution of chinese ceramics specifically from Han Dynasty to Ming Dynasty. Last but not least, we will need to incorporate your design into merchandise template for HONOR that is provided on its official website.

Techniques Applied

For this project, I applied several techniques that were taught in class. For instance, the composition techniques from Week 6during our We and the animation techniques taught in Week 9 classes.

In this task, I applied the animation workflow taught—starting with Illustrator for design, organising layers in Photoshop, and then animating in After Effects. I used basic position, scale, and opacity keyframes for smooth transitions, similar to what we practiced with the panda exercise.

Self Reflection

What I enjoyed most about this assignment was getting to bring my design to life through animation. Seeing the historical vases move gently and shift across time felt very rewarding and made the whole narrative feel more emotional and immersive. I also loved the combination of history and digital art—it made the creative process more meaningful to me.

If I were to improve my work, I’d like to refine the animation pacing more. Some transitions between vases felt a bit rushed or too subtle. I also wish I had more time to explore sound design or ambient elements to make the looping animation feel even more complete. Still, I’m proud of what I created as a first attempt at motion graphics.
